Foaming Agent
Achieve thermal insulation for your films without the need for new machinery: Our masterbatch chemically modifies your material, offering a cost-effective and simple alternative to physical foaming.
Using SUKANO® Foaming Agent, you reduce the density and weight of your material while preserving most of its mechanical properties. When the material is heated during extrusion, the integrated additive package thermally releases carbon dioxide into the polymer matrix. This process reduces the overall density of the film, resulting in lower material usage and enabling lightweight applications. Additionally, in injection molding, the additive package can help reduce sink marks.
By reducing density, material usage can be minimized which has a positive environmental impact. Improved opacity allows for applications with a whitish appearance. Additionally, the insulation properties of the Foaming Agent enable the material’s use in building insulation.
Nucleating Agent
Amorphous polymers exhibit limited heat resistance because they begin to gradually lose stability at their glass transition temperature.
With SUKANO® Nucleating masterbatches for PET and PLA, you control the crystallization process of the polymer to increase both the dimensional and thermal stability of your end application. The product facilitates the formulation of a uniform crystalline structure in the polymer and prevents deformation during thermoforming and injection molding.
SUKANO® Nucleating masterbatches improve the heat-stability of PET, making this circular material suitable for heated food packaging applications. For example, our solution enables opaque CPET menu trays to reach heat-resistance up to 220°C, making them suitable for ovenable food packaging applications. Our masterbatches also offer solutions for transparent CPET-light hot-fill cups and tray applications to achieve heat-stability up to 100°C.
With SUKANO® Nucleating masterbatches for polymers, you control and speed-up crystallization, enhancing the productivity of your processes while maintaining a high-quality level. In addition, you increase the thermal resistance of your material, making it suitable for higher temperature applications.
Impact Modifier
The use of inherently brittle polymers like PLA and degraded recycled materials is often limited in applications requiring high impact resistance due to their brittleness.
SUKANO® Impact Modifier addresses this issue by enhancing the durability, toughness, and impact resistance of both recycled and virgin materials. This makes them suitable for cold, flash-frozen, and room-temperature applications.
By improving the material’s mechanical properties with our masterbatches, you can integrate higher amounts of recycled content in end applications without compromising functionality, transparency, or recyclability.
Our Impact Modifier increases impact strength and reduces brittleness, enabling the use of rPET and PLA across all processing conditions. It enhances the tenacity in the end application. As a result, recycled content can be increased while maintaining shattering resistance.
Plasticizer

Switching to bio-based materials like PLA can often be challenging due to its inherent rigidity and brittleness, leading to breakage and limited application use. With SUKANO® Plasticizers, you can modify PLA, making it softer and increasing its flexibility. By reducing stiffness and increasing elongation, our plasticizers enhance the performance of PLA in end applications.

Analytical Lab
Leverage our Analytical Lab, featuring a variety of equipment for testing mechanical properties. Our trained experts evaluate our solutions with high-quality technologies, such as tensile testers for camera-supported elongation measurement or specialized impact testers to evaluate the resistance of films and polymers. Additionally, our team provides advanced tools for measuring visual properties such as haze and clarity, ensuring comprehensive material analysis.
To analyze the performance of nucleating agents, we use differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) to measure the nucleation speed and crystallinity level.

Recycling Lab
In our Recycling Laboratory, we replicate the relevant steps of the mechanical recycling process affected by our products, to test our masterbatches and ensure they maintain the integrity of existing recycling streams.

Collaboration and Innovation to Enhance Recyclability
Making PET Hot-Fillable
In collaboration with Illig, SML, and Kiefel, Sukano formulated a new Nucleating masterbatch package that allows clear CPET-light food packaging to be dimensionally stable at temperatures up to 100°C. This advancement enables the use of PET for hot-fill applications in opaque as well as transparent applications. It allows the replacement of PP with PET, broadening the PET market while ensuring recyclability of the end application.
Ensuring Recyclability of CPET-Light
Pellenc ST, a leading sorting machine manufacturer, has performed NIR and UV sorting tests, replicating the recycling process in a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) on sample applications using SUKANO® Nucleating Agents. Our samples were correctly detected as PET. In the sorting tests, our CPET-light samples were positively sorted out as clear PET.
