Recyclability Lab

We Replicate the Mechanical Recycling Process Steps

Recyclability has become a key requirement in today’s products. Thus, we implemented rigorous tests and measurements in our daily business – all to make sure our masterbatches maintain the integrity of existing recycling streams.

We can confidently state this because our analytical and processing equipment enables us to replicate the essential steps of the rPET mechanical recycling process in-house. This allows us to thoroughly evaluate the performance of our masterbatches on existing PET recycling streams before introducing them to the market.

This capability not only ensures that our products align with industry standards but also allows us to provide detailed insights into how our masterbatches perform under real-world recycling conditions. By replicating each critical stage of the mechanical recycling process, we bridge the gap between product development and sustainability.

1. Sample Preparation:

To ensure precise material characteristics, we prepare films or molded trays with controlled formulations. Our independent and efficient sample generation accelerates development cycles.

2. Detectability Validation:

The sample material's detectability is assessed using our NIR instrument for accurate and reliable results.

3. Flake Generation:

With our in-house flake grinder, we process films, trays, or bottles into flakes using sieves ranging from 6–10 mm. These flakes are then used for recycling process evaluations.

4. Material Processing:

In the next step, the generated flakes or pellets are mixed, crystallized, dried, and compounded using available equipment in our technical center.

5. Solid-State Polycondensation (SSP):

Our SSP tumbler, with a small batch capacity of 15–20 kg, closely replicates real-world SSP in the recycling process. During this stage, we sample the material at specific intervals for IV testing to monitor intrinsic viscosity.

6. IV Measurement:

IV measurements are conducted in-house, delivering quick and accurate test results.

7. Film/Plaque Production:

We use extruders and injection molders to produce film or plaque samples, which undergo further testing for quality and performance.

8. Property Testing:

In our in-house analytical center, we perform comprehensive testing, including color and haze measurement as well as mechanical property analysis.
